Paddle Through the Miyara River Mangroves by SUP or Canoe
This tour takes you by SUP (stand-up paddleboard) or canoe along the Miyara River on Ishigaki Island, through the Miyara River Hirugi Forest (mangrove forest), a National Natural Monument of Japan. As you paddle past mangroves crowding the riverbanks, you can observe the subtropical nature up close.
The tour takes about 2 hours 30 minutes. Equipment rental and photo data taken by your guide are included.

Safety at PiPi, a Certified "Maru-Yu" Shop
The tour is run by "Ishigaki Island ADVENTURE PiPi," operated by NASH Co., Ltd.
PiPi is a certified shop under the "Excellent Marine Leisure Safety Provider" program (known as "Maru-Yu"), which is granted only to operators that meet the safety standards set by the Okinawa Prefectural Public Safety Commission. Only about 3% of operators in Okinawa Prefecture hold this certification (as of August 2025).
The shop has met strict standards for guide safety training and operations, including mandatory life jackets, carrying an AED, and regular safety training for staff. That is why first-timers and families with children can join with confidence.
First, Choose Your Time Slot and SUP or Canoe
When booking, you choose both your time slot and your activity. Check which slots are available for your preferred date across early morning, morning, afternoon and evening.
During the day, you paddle along the river surrounded by green mangroves. Early morning and evening slots include courses designed around the sunrise or sunset. Choose based on the scenery you want to see and what else you have planned that day. Please note that sunrise and sunset may not be visible depending on the weather.
SUP means standing on a large board and paddling. From a standing position, you can look out over the trees along the river from a higher vantage point.
In a canoe, you paddle while seated, so the water feels closer. In a two-person canoe, you sit one behind the other and call out to each other as you go.

Learn How to Paddle, Then Head Out on the River
Following the instructions in your booking confirmation, you meet your guide and head to the activity site. Put on your life jacket and learn how to hold and use the paddle.
The Miyara River is a calm setting surrounded by mangroves. Even first-timers can make their way along the river with the guide's support.
Once you are ready, step onto your chosen SUP or canoe. Dip your paddle into the water and enjoy the green scenery spreading out along the river.

Next, Observe the Mangroves Along the River
Along the banks, you can see roots spreading at the water's edge and branches reaching out over the river. As you paddle past the trees, feel free to ask your guide about any plants that catch your eye.
Where branches stretch overhead, look up and notice the layers of leaves. From the water, you can enjoy a variety of views, from green reflected on the surface to glimpses of sky between the branches.
Participants love the relaxed time spent cruising among the green mangroves under the blue sky. The route and order of stops vary depending on conditions on the day.

Back to the Start, With Photos to Remember the Trip
After your time on the river, you return to the starting point. The photo data taken by your guide is yours free of charge, so you can take home shots of yourself paddling and surrounded by mangroves.
The hot showers near the Ishigaki Port Ferry Terminal (Ritou Terminal) are available only during limited hours. They cannot be used for slots outside operating hours, such as early morning and evening courses, so if you would like to use them, please check when booking.
